Information for visitors

If you have been accused of a motoring offence and the matter is not resolved with the police, you will have to attend the Magistrates Court. Portsmouth Magistrates Court, usually, has hearings in both the morning and afternoon.  Even if you arrive promptly for your hearing time you may have a very long wait before your case is finally called.  The reason for this is that Portsmouth Magistrates Court tends to deal with other criminal cases first, especially those involving someone in custody, before it will hear the road traffic cases.

When you arrive at Portsmouth Magistrates Court, you will have to go through a security check.  After you have done this you will need to speak to the usher located at the reception desk who will take your name and the details of your solicitor who is attending.  You should then take a seat in the waiting area where your solicitor will shortly arrive to speak to you.
